He is the son of film actor Biswajeet Chatterjee and Ratna Chatterjee. He is the brother of Pallavi Chatterjee and Shambhavi Chatterjee. He is best known for his Bengali films Amar Sangi released in 1987. Prosenjit Chatterjee is married to film actress Arpita Pal and they have a son Trishanjit Chatterjee. Prosenjit Chatterjee is also a previous married to Aparna Gunatnakurta and Debashree Roy. His first debut film Duti Pata released in 1983.
