Wisconsin Exterior Posts with baseboards assist please.
I lately moved to Wisconsin and bought a home. The entrance exterior of the home has two cedar beams. Across the backside of the beams have been mitered baseboards with what I’m assuming was handled wooden. The earlier proprietor did a shoddy job and slathered silicone between the gaps.
I’m within the strategy of re staining the posts and eliminated the baseboards to see what was what. There wasn’t any mildew however the baseboards gave the impression to be retaining moisture. The bottoms have been mushy as in the event that they have been beginning to rot however nothing seen.
My query is….is it higher to interchange the baseboards with new wooden or simply hold off baseboards so the cedar posts can breath??

Sounds like they were trimmed out for decoration and leaving them off would not be a problem.
